Aquatint
limited edition of 30
image size 16” high x 12” wide
$200
Nancy’s design is about the red dye, cochineal extract (or carmine pigment), made from scale insects that occur on the the surfaces of prickly pear cactus. This red dye was used during the reigns of the Mayan and Aztec empires.
Nancy worked on site with master printmaker Enrique Flores Gonzalez at his studio in Huitzo, Oaxaca, Mexico to produce this limited edition aquatint. Each print was made with two plates, one black and one color. The color plate is hand-painted for each impression of 30 on Hahnemühle paper.
